Ladies in Black è un film ambientato a Sydney nell'estate del 1959, sullo sfondo del risveglio culturale dell'Australia, del crollo delle strutture di classe e della liberazione delle donne. Racconta la storia di una scolara di giovane età, Lisa, che mentre aspetta il suo ultimo esame di scuola superiore con il sogno poi di frequentare l'Università di Sydney, decide di fare un lavoro estivo in un grande magazzino. Qui lavora fianco a fianco con un gruppo di commesse e saranno proprio questi incontri che le permetteranno di aprire gli occhi su un mondo che va molto al di là della sua esistenza protetta e che favoriranno la sua metamorfosi.
