Nel 2001 il Boston Globe inizia un'indagine che potrebbe scuotere la città di Boston e il mondo intero. Tale indagine vede coinvolti Marty Baron, Ben Bradlee jr. e i quattro membri della squadra investigativa del Globe (Walter Robinson, Mike Rezendes, Sacha Pfeiffer e Matt Carroll), chiamati a sacrificare tutto pur di portare alla luce gli abusi sessuali subiti da alcuni bambini perpetrati da parte di sacerdoti dell'Arcidiocesi di Boston, abusi poi insabbiati a opere degli stessi vertici ecclesiastici. Per anni, le voci di quanto accaduto sono state ignorate dalla società, dai media, dalla polizia e dal sistema giuridico. Nel silenzio della vergogna, molte vittime si sono suicidate ma qualcosa sta definitivamente per cambiare.
